Moose
A 7 year old boy we rescued from a municipal shelter in Eastern LI. An outgoing, happy lap cat who suddenly appeared to fall ill out of nowhere. We rushed him to the emergency vet where it was discovered he has severe dental disease and resorptive lesions (where the gums eat away at the teeth). Something he must have been living with for years, never once letting the pain show through his mushy, friendly persona. After x-rays, blood work, steroid & pain injections, Moose went in for surgery. The doctor cleaned his teeth, removed the broken ones, and sadly discovered many of the roots of his teeth were exposed. Luckily she was able to remove all the sources of pain. Unfortunately Moose likely spent a large portion of his life in agony because of his painful condition. However, we are relieved that we rescued him and were able to see to it that he received the care he needed to finally live pain-free. Moose is onto happier & healthier days. Especially now that he's been adopted! :)
