Sweet William

6 years old, Male, Neutered
His story is almost too terrible to repeat. His owner committed suicide and was undiscovered for about a month in his home.
This sweet and beautiful boy was left there, alone, in all that time.
We don't know how he survived. He was found in the basement of the home, dehydrated and very upset, covered in home heating oil.
He was then surrendered to a kill shelter by his owner's family members. Divine intervention had us at the shelter that SAME day so we were able to rescue him and help him immediately!

He spent his first day with us  at the hospital so that he could be sedated and bathed repeatedly to try to rid his hair and body of the oil. He still smells of oil but not nearly as badly as he had.

He was sedated at the vet and bathed repeatedly to get rid of the noxious fumes that saturated his fur, and he was found to have chemical burns on his feet and legs from long-term exposure to the fuel oil. ;(

Once back at our Adoption Center, his deep sadness was palpable, and each night he'd cry mournfully while wandering each room.
He wouldn't eat so we had to force feed him small amounts
around the clock for days. We would pet him and talk to him,
and he sat stunned and unresponsive.
Two weeks after his rescue, William is doing much better! The mournful crying has stopped. He is eating on his own! His eyes have calmed down and come into focus, and he is looking around in curiosity (we even found him looking out the window!) Now when we pet him and speak to him, he closes his eyes in appreciation. (we've even been able to get a tiny purr out of him <3 ) William's past is over, and his future is looking brighter!
