Shelter Run Fund
This is the basis upon which Golden Paw Society was founded! When we say "shelters," we are referring to taxpayer-funded municipalities that serve as a place for displaced pets within the specific townships. These "pounds" are typically outdated buildings that do not have adequate conditions due to overcrowding. While cats spending any amount of time in a cage can be upsetting, many find themselves waiting in a cage for long periods of time. When we visit a shelter to rescue cats on a shelter run, we gravitate towards those who have been waiting an extended period of time and/or are having difficulty adjusting to shelter living, as these are the ones who are at greatest risk of being euthanized. Once rescued, the cats are brought to our Adoption Center, which is a two-story house set up just for our rescued cats! Each of our Adoption Center residents lives with freedom and the ability to explore the way cats like to do (in fact, they need it for their health and well-being!) |
We are all volunteers who have worked tirelessly to create and maintain this home exclusively for cats rescued from shelter cages - cats who used to have a home and know what they are missing, and so they are literally homesick! They used to have a favorite person or a whole family to love, a favorite spot to rest in, a favorite food or treat or toy and favorite things to do - and every bit of it has been taken away from them. They are alone, with not one of the comforts of home to provide some relief. Our mission is to change this for as many cats as we can!
Our home-away-from home Adoption Center comfortably houses about 50 cats at any given time. Each adoption makes space for another rescue and the cycle continues! We are very careful not to over-extend ourselves so that each cat we rescue receives excellent care and attention.
Cats rescued from shelter cages come with unique challenges. Most are stressed or traumatized in some way by what they've experienced being confined in less-than-ideal conditions for however long. Each cat incurs medical/care expenses during his or her stay with us, regardless of the health of the cat upon intake (expenses such as spay/neuter, deworming, vaccinations, dental surgeries, etc). In anticipation of this, the Shelter Run Fund was established to support our cat intake and allow for MORE cats to be rescued! This is a more personal form of animal sponsorship - this is a program in which a cat's life is saved solely due to your generous donation.
Please consider donating to our Shelter Run Fund. Any amount is appreciated or opt for our One for One Full Sponsorship (see below). Either way, stay tuned for our next Shelter Run and be part of our rescue mission!!!
One for One*
Each cat incurs medical/food/litter/care expenses of at the very least $100. This is the minimum amount we ask for a full sponsorship of one of our cats from our next Shelter Run. For a Full One for One Sponsorship, you are single-handedly saving a life!
(One for One sponsorships can be wonderful gifts for animal-loving friends who might appreciate that a life has been saved in their honor. If you choose to donate a One for One sponsorship as a gift please make a note with your donation so we can contact you for acknowledgement details. )
