Golden Guardian Program
Cat owners who are concerned about what will happen to their pet should they become unable to care for them can secure their future by setting up a pet trust for their cat to live out their days in the loving care of Golden Paw Society.
Golden Paw Society is a private, not-for-profit animal rescue organization founded for the purpose of rescuing cats who have been in municipal shelters for an extended period of time and/or who exhibit a dire need of removal from the shelter setting. We believe that no matter how old, sick or ‘difficult’ a cat may be, each cat deserves to be loved, cared for, and given a second chance, and we endeavor to provide that second chance to those cats who need us most. Golden Paw Society never euthanizes an animal unless he/she is incurably ill and has a compromised quality of life.
Many cats end up in “kill” shelters intentionally, meaning their owners willingly surrendered them for reasons such as: owner moving; new baby; family members allergies; cat has behavioral problems, etc., however some end up in shelters because either their owner moved into assisted living, or passed away. In these cases, the owners did not necessarily willingly opt for surrendering their cat, but rather lack of planning/resources left them no other choice. It is not unheard of that a family member promised the owner they would take the cat(s), but when the time came they were not able/willing, and thus the cats end up in municipal shelters.
Golden Paw Society has created a program allowing caring owners to arrange for the special provisions for the care of their cat(s), should they no longer be able to.
With a dedicated staff of volunteers, and a state-of-the-art ‘home away from home’ adoption center, GPS provides an alternative for cats who survive their owners. A simple clause in a persons' will can provide long-term care for a cat who otherwise may not have an alternative place to live. The Golden Paw Society cats live in a ‘home away from home’ atmosphere and are never caged unless undergoing close observation for medical purposes. Veterinary care is always available if necessary.
While a ‘home away from home’ lifestyle is vastly superior to being caged in a shelter at risk of being euthanized, it is
indisputable that living in a real home is the best environment for a cat. Some cats truly don’t enjoy living with 40 other cats long-term. It is for this reason that Golden Guardian program members are considered as foster/adoption candidates on a case-by-case basis.
